2.1 Simple Past Tense

Usage:
Tense ini digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian yang terjadi pada masa lampau.

Example:

• I went to school yesterday, but nobody was there.
• He watched movie with his friend yesterday.
• They joint the Halloween party last night.
  

2.2 Past Continuous Tense

Usage:
Tense ini digunakan untuk meyatakan suatu kejadian yang sedang berlangsung/terjadi pada masa lampau. Biasanya digabungkan dengan anak kalimat berupa simple past tense atau past continuous tense itu sendiri untuk memperjelas makna kalimat.

Example:

• I was watching TV when the phone rang.
• He was walking on the street when I called him.
• They were talking to each other while their teacher was teaching in front of the class.

1.1. Simple Present Tense

Usage :
Tense ini digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian yang biasanya dilakukan berulang-ulang / sesuatu yang sudah mejadi suatu kebiasaan.

Example:

• I go to school every day at 7 o'clock.
• He watches football match almost every week.
• They usually work until midnight.
  

1.2. Present Continuous Tense

Usage :
Tense ini digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian yang saat ini sedang berlangsung.

Example:

• I am cooking fried chicken with my mother now.
• He is watching football match on ESPN at this moment.
• They are working in the office at this time.

1.3. Present Perfect Tense

Usage :
Tense ini digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian yang telah selesai dilakukan ataupun sesuatu yang mulai terjadi dari masa lampau sampai saat ini.

Example:

• I have finished my lunch.
  
• He has sent the confirmation mail to me.
  
• They have established this organization since 2006.

Menguasai tenses dalam Bahasa Inggris menjadi dasar untuk mempermudah belajar Bahasa Inggris itu sendiri, karena setiap kalimat yang kita ucapkan atau kita baca termasuk ke dalam salah satu tenses yang ada.

Berikut adalah kategori tenses yang sebaiknya kita tahu dan mengerti dari sisi struktur kalimat maupun penggunaannya.

Kategori utama adalah berdasarkan titik pandang waktu, yakni: sekarang(present), masa lampau(past), dan masa depan(future).
